Limestone is extracted from quarries using a blasting and ripping process. Wheel loaders and dumper trucks transport these raw materials to crushing installations, where they are refined into a fine compound. The crushed materials are transported via conveyor belts and cable-ways into a storage facility where they are homogenised on blending beds. The raw materials are dried and mixed into roller grinding mills. These materials are mixed at different consistencies, depending on the type of cement desired to be produced. For example, adding iron powder to the grinding mill allows for greater stability in the quality of cement produced. After the raw materials are ground, they are placed in a raw meal silo. Thereafter, the materials are burned in a “sintering” process to produce clinker. The clinker is then cooled down in clinker silos and placed in ball mills or roller presses. It is ground into a finer compound to which further materials are added in order to attain the desired properties in the cement. Thereafter, the cement is stored in silos, before being shipped to its distribution chain.
